JLPT Preparatory Courses for N3, N4 and N5
These are short-term courses to prepare students for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) to be conducted this coming December. Applicants should have basic knowledge of the language to attend this class. The courses are offered both in-person and online.
Goals
Review and improve reading and listening skills through mastering basic vocabulary, grammar, typical expressions and sentences structures, basic kanji, Katakana, Hiragana.
N3: The ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations to certain degree. One is able to grasp summary information such as newspaper headlines. One is able to listen and comprehend coherent conversations in everyday situations, spoke at near-natural speed, and is generally able to follow their contents as well as grasp the relationships among the people involved.
N4: One is able to read and understand passages on familiar daily topics written in basic vocabulary and Kanji. One is able to listen and comprehend conversations encountered in daily life and generally follow their contents, provided that they are spoken.
N5: One is able to read and understand typical expressions and sentences written in Hiragana, Katakana, and basic kanji. One is able to listen and comprehend conversation in daily life and classroom situations, and is able to pick up necessary information from short conversations spoken slowly.
Our classes will focus on basic grammar points during the class; quizzes will be given to review the basic points covered during the class. Students will be able to study Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, and vocabulary through the self-study app NativShark (free of charge during the semester).
Each class will be about 90 minutes, with your instructor providing an additional 30 minutes to answer any questions.
The course consists of 11 weekly lecture classes, followed by a mock exam (12th week).

The mock exam is also available to those not taking courses with us. There is a fee for the exam. Please contact the Japanese Langue Program team for more information.
